The Search

by GABE ANDERSON - February 12, 2021

You gave me sunshine

while I felt the rain.

You moved mountains

to help ease my pain.

But how can I stay

with my heart in disarray?

You were there for me

when I was in misery—

but during the light

you disappeared into the night.

Does my pain give you purpose?

Why try to be my glue

only when I feel worthless?

Where must I go

when my heart’s been hurt

from too many blows

to find a lover

that will stay after I recover?

I wave goodbye.

I wish you the best.

If you saw the signs,

you’ll know why I left.
