STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: Nationally Ranked Baller

by SOPHIE GORECKI - December 12, 2020 - Ranked 36th on the ESPN Super 60 girls basketball list, Alyssa Crockett (11) reflects on her success.

WESTFIELD, Ind. (December 2020) - With an average of 10.7 points and 7.6 rebounds per game, Alyssa Crockett (11) is a force to be reckoned with on the Westfield Girls’ Basketball team. These impressive stats have earned Crockett ample recognition from recruiters and fans alike, but most notably earned her rank number 36 overall and 8th for her position in the nation by ESPN.

“Right now it’s so surreal just to think about it,” Crockett said. “When people talk about it sometimes I don’t realize it’s such a big deal. It impacted me a lot and made me realize how thankful I am.”

Even after her recent success, Crockett is still looking into the future and striving towards new goals for this season.

“This season I’m hoping the team can win the sectional championship and come together more as a team,” Crockett said. “[My personal goal for this season] is to score 1,000 points. I think I’m around 700, so I want to get to that goal.”

As well as striving towards goals while still on the high school team, Crockett also has plans for a future college basketball career. The question on the minds of many is where she will choose to play after receiving recognition from ESPN.

“I want to play in college,” Crockett said. “I don’t know where I want to go yet, but I think I’m going to commit soon. I have around 20 offers, so I’m just trying to decide.”

With an impressive track record and promising future ahead, Alyssa Crockett is surely a player to watch. You can see her play at the next WHS Girls’ Varsity Basketball home game on Wednesday January 6 at 7:30 p.m.
