Record Store Day for Dummies

A guide to the biannual music collector’s holiday

Although Record Store Day has already passed, it’s never too late to support our locally-owned record stores. Record Store Day is an annual event that takes place on one Saturday every April (this year it took place on April 20, 2024) and every Black Friday. Record Store Day is a day adored by music lovers and the people who say music sounds better on vinyl; let’s be honest, does it really? On this day people come together to celebrate the independently owned record stores in their area. A popular tradition for this day is for artists to release an album or song, new or old, on vinyl for their fans to enjoy. Not only is this day a great way for you to support your local businesses, but it’s also a great way to bond with other fans over your love for music.

In case you do not want to go through the trouble of figuring out which record/music stores in our area are participating in Record Store Day, I compiled a list for you; including their address, hours, phone number, and website.

I also saved you the time of trying to figure out if your favorite artist released something on vinyl. I created a list of the artists that released something for Record Store Day. However, the list doesn’t include every artist that released something, but instead it consists of artists I felt were known or relevant to our generation. If you want the complete list there are plenty of websites that have it.
