POEM: Wedding Ring

Updated: Dec 2, 2019

by KAITLYN HEWITT - March 27, 2019

Her wedding ring is a chain

that she is forced to wear

so no one else will look at her

except him

Her wedding ring is a chain

that digs deep into her skin

so she’s covered in scars that come

from him

Her wedding ring is a chain

that has short links

so she can’t escape punches that come

from him

Her wedding ring is a chain

that gets tighter when she tries to break free

so she gives up trying to escape

from him

Her wedding ring is a chain

and she is dying

everyday

because of him
