The pines shoot from the ground like skyscrapers
The roots strangle the stone buildings, reclaiming what they had before
You watch the scenery blend together, images stirred in water
and you run--
Truly lost, you stumble towards the sun
for solace and relief you never thought you’d see
The sky meets the trees and you find what you’ve been looking for.
It echoes off the walls, reverberating in your head
vibrations in the floors, metallic taste to the tongue
You can’t change what’s been done, it’s been laid in stone
So you move forward, your heartstrings tight like twine,
tense against your outstretched arms.
