I wish I’d said good-bye without shed tears
When God decided that your time was near
I know what was arranged had to be done
For your endless battle could not be won
I still remember the day you were gone
The day when you could no longer hold on
I mourn I wasn’t there for your last breath
That you were alone the day of your death
When your heart stopped I felt a longing ache
Yet I knew that it was all for your sake
But you are now gone and all that is left—
Memories made and overbearing heft
I know you are in a greener pasture
Where you can roam free and run faster
Now away from your never-ending pain
Finally breaking from your anchored chain
You will always be remembered by me
The horse who finally made me feel free
