Here's My Heart

By Maddy Jones, February 14, 2022

Here’s my heart

or, at least a piece of it.

Take it; I’m giving it to you.

Please don’t tear it.

Why won’t I give you my whole heart? Because I

don’t want you to see the imperfections, the cuts

and tears from the others

before you.

I can sense that you’re different

but I’ve said that about others.

He said he wouldn’t tear it.

She said she wouldn’t crush it.

Here’s my heart

or, at least a piece of it.

This piece is untouched,

undamaged.

Here’s my heart

or, at least a piece of it.

This is the last piece I have.

Please don’t tear it.
