Females & Fashion

by AVA BOEDEKER - February 21, 2021 - The top six women that you nominated via my Instagram poll for having the best fashion at the school describe their wardrobe and give advice to those seeking a new style.

Grace Bartee (9)

“Fashion helps me stand out and define who I am as a person. My favorite types of outfits are layered ones because they make me feel at home and comfortable while looking good. I actually shop at Goodwill 99% of the time. I usually never shop at regular stores and if I do, it’s for pants because thrifting pants that fit me is rare. For those who are trying to figure out their sense of style, I would say to think of colors and things you like that go well with you as a person and go from there. Start small!”

“I love fashion because it’s such a cool way to express yourself. I have always loved being creative, and I like knowing people can sense that from me without having to even talk to me! Especially at this age, it’s easy to get grouped into being a certain type of person, so fashion can help show how you are unique. I personally love fun and colorful pants. I usually wear more of a plain top with cool pants. I love shopping at thrift stores because of how unique every item is. Hot House Vintage in the fashion mall is by far my favorite store to shop. To those who are trying to figure out their sense of style, I would say go on Pinterest. There are so many different types of styles and aesthetics on there that you can pick out. The app is very good for inspiration. I would also say have confidence in yourself. Having confidence helps you figure out how you want to express yourself!”

“Fashion is important to me because it’s the one way you can stand out to others that might not know you on the inside, and show them more of your personality or your sense of style before meeting you. My favorite clothing pieces would have to be skirts for sure, I love a good crew neck with a skirt. I always make sure my mask matches my pants and my shoes match my top. My main stores I shop at are Brandy Melville, Goodwill, and Urban Outfitters! If you’re figuring out your sense of style, I would definitely stray away from the societal norms, and experiment with what you truly love to wear, while not being afraid to wear it. Also, Pinterest is a great (place to) start to explore what you like!”

Iris Turkel (11)

“Fashion is important because I think that it’s fun to wear what I want! My favorite places to shop are probably Goodwill, Shein, Target, American Eagle, and off of Instagram ads. Advice that I would give is just to wear what you want and don’t stress about what people will think of it because at the end of the day, everyone is too busy worrying about themselves to care about what you are wearing.”

“Fashion is important to me because it is a great way to show your personality. I enjoy shopping as well as buying new clothes. I really enjoy shopping at many different stores, but one of my favorites is Urban Outfitters. I really don’t have one specific style. I like dressing up, but I also like casual clothes. If I had to give advice to someone who is trying to figure out their own style, I would say don’t be afraid of being yourself, and make sure you’re wearing things that make you feel good about yourself.”

Isabella Bishop (12)

“I feel like the way someone dresses says a lot about who they are, whether that be their personality, interests, etc. I love that everyone has their own sense of style, and I truly believe we can grow to know others more by the clothes they wear. Fashion to me is important because it is much more than what someone chooses to wear. My favorite outfits are definitely oversized sweaters, anything animal print, and pastel colored shirts. I love shopping at Altar’d State, Nordstrom, American Eagle, and Dry Goods. (Advice I would give to someone who doesn’t know where to start with fashion is) don’t be afraid to get out of your comfort zone! If you’re afraid to wear something because it is not ‘in style,’ wear it anyways. Don’t be afraid to try something new, because that may turn out to be your new favorite outfit that inspires others!”
