Falling Into Fall

With the arrival of October, the autumn season really begins to make its mark and shows how great of a season fall is. Though there is a noticeable increase in the amount of gray, cold days during the fall season, the good that fall brings far outweighs the bad.

The bright green trees change to vibrants shades of red, yellow, and orange, and allow forests to become beautiful painting-like masterpieces. Hiking in forests is a great way to see the forest from a new perspective. Eventually, tree leaves become carpets over the dry grass and can be raked up into piles that provide enormous piles to dive into. Others are fun to step on, making a satisfying sound beneath one’s foot.

In order to be outside though, fall gear is always great to bring out. Cozy sweaters, fun coats, and comfy boots are brought out, making for a fun change-up in outfits as the cool temperatures settle in. New styles are brought out, providing fun opportunities to go shopping.

Pumpkins bring numerous activities to participate in. One could carve or paint a pumpkin and put it on display. carving and painting them, and are fun decorations for the season, along with other autumn decor. If not used for decoration, the pumpkins make great flavors for desserts such as pumpkin pies. Besides pumpkins, apple orchards are a great destination during autumn. Ripe juicy apples are ready to be picked, and many of them always have fun corn mazes and hayrides to go on.

While fall does tend to close off the sun and cool things down, this only makes people want to stay inside and get all warm and comfy. Looking on the bright side, this does provide a relaxing afternoon. I always find it best to read or watch a movie when it’s fall. With fall also comes unique holidays such as Halloween and Thanksgiving. Whether it’s trick or treating with friends or handing out the candy, October 31 is always a night to mark on the calendar. There is an ongoing debate about whether or not high school students should go trick or treating, and I have to vouch that they should be able to. Why not? Trick or treating provides a great time with friends and only occurs once a year. The fun leading up to Halloween and trick or treating are both things that high schoolers should be allowed to participate in if they want.

Besides Halloween, Thanksgiving is another great holiday with memories that are made to last. It always provides a great time to catch up with distant relatives, including that long lost uncle or that step cousin one never may have known about. Recognizing the good in life is also a nice trait to add to the holiday. The best part though, has to be the food. Above all, no doubt about it! Turkey, mashed potatoes, casseroles, stuffing, rolls, pumpkin pie, and more are all foods that Thanksgiving’s reputation is on.

Autumn, though it may seem somewhat gray, is truly a great season that brings everyone together in fun traditions and unique ways, and for this, we should all recognize it as a bright season in our lives.
